This week I’ve been hooked on strawberry and raspberry chocolate protein shakes. They taste like a comfort food, but are super healthy and high in protein! Here is the main recipe I’ve been using:
1 scoop Chocolate Sunwarrior Protein (80 cal)
¼ cup almond milk (10 or so cal, depending on the brand)
1 cup strawberries, or 6 large strawberries (60-ish calories)
I make this single serving, 150 cal. recipe if I want protein to eat along with fruit. I double the drink recipe if I want a LOT of protein or need a very speedy and portable 300 cal. meal. One serving yields between 8 and 10oz of liquid depending how much water you blend it with.
I’ve also discovered that raspberries are VERY flavorful when substituted for strawberries, and are really good at masking the taste of greens in a shake! I usually don’t feel like eating greens first thing in the morning, but when I blended the above recipe with raspberries instead, the resulting shake was so strong, sweet, and tangy, that I threw it back in the blender with a ton of spinach (almost 3 cups!) to see if it made a difference in the taste. Not only was I completely unable to detect the spinach when I tasted the shake again, but it also maintained it’s beautiful ruby red hue, unaffected by the color of the green leaves blended in.
I’m sure this would be a great way to sneak greens into a yummy shake for kids.
This recipe isn’t 100% raw unless you are making your own almond milk or the brand you buy specifies “raw vegan” on the packaging. (I haven’t yet started making my own almond milk, but it’s on my to-do list.) This recipe is just as yummy without the almond milk. I simply like to use that little bit of almond milk to give the texture of the smoothie a creamier edge.
